The University of Minho is one of the most prestigious Portuguese higher education institutions, and is gradually becoming more prominent internationally. The University was founded in 1973, and currently comprises three campi: the Gualtar Campus, in Braga, and the Azurém and Couros Campi, in Guimarães. Today, the University has ca. 20.000 students, 34% of which are post-graduate and 13% are from abroad.
The University of Minho is focused on research. The university occupies important international rankings, such as the Leiden Ranking, which is the main bibliometric ranking associated with scientific research. Other important rankings in which the University of Minho is well positioned are the Times Higher Education (THE) ranking, both in their global ranking and in the THE ranking of universities under-50 years old.
